Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. At times, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are wonderful at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling starved can really bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
