Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at fighting back depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Some grains are actually wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these suggestions instead.
