Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

If you would like to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these instead!
