Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are several foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Consume an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

If you want to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods also!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these tips instead.
