Foods That Make You Happy

Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should avoid them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
