Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
Most of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.
If you wish to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
Grains can be great for fighting a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
