Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should avoid them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming a few eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full too which can really help to improve your mood. It’s not hard to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know it can help improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
