Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

If you wish to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
