Steps to make Melt-in-your-mouth Hawaiian Malasada Donuts:
  1. I used this condensed milk, which is canned in a factory in Kumamoto, using domestic milk and sugar from Australia or South America.
  2. Put the egg → condensed milk → water in a measuring cup in that order, so that the total comes to 200 ml. Put all the ingredients (except for the sugar and coatings) in a bread machine and start the "dough only" program.
  3. Make ready 12 pieces of 10 cm square kitchen parchment paper. When the dough making program is done, divide the dough into 12 portions, round them off and put them on the pieces of paper.
  4. (This dough is not rested.) Use your microwave oven's bread-rising function to let the rise rise for 45 minutes or so at 40°C (2nd rising) until the dough has doubled in volume.
  5. Try your best not to touch the dough. As soon as the 2nd rising is done, gently place the dough in oil heated to 170℃, with the squares of paper to prevent it from sticking to your hands.
  6. Since this dough is low in moisture, it won't make any sound or bubble up even in hot oil. But that means it's doing well, so don't worry!
  7. Fry on both sides for about 2 minutes each until golden brown. They won't make a sizzling sound even when you turn them over. But that's OK!
  8. Put the cooked donuts on a draining rack on their sides to drain off the oil. If you set their top/bottom on the rack, the excess oil won't drain off properly.
  9. Once the oil has drained off, put a malasada while it's still hot in a plastic bag with granulated sugar one at a time and shake it around to coat with the sugar.
  10. Please enjoy these freshly fried! You can warm them up in the microwave for 20 seconds the next day. Try mixing cinnamon powder, powdered coconut, kinako flour and so on in the sugar.
  11. You maybe wondering if 100 g of condensed milk is needed, but not to worry. For that unique malasada feel, it's needed. You can use homemade condensed milk made by simmering soy milk and sugar together.

Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really healthy and good for you. There are some foods that actually can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are terrific at combating depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat an egg and be happy!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods as well!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
