Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for raising your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to fight depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.
Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Go with these tips instead!
