Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that basically can boost your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at fighting back depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to combat depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try these tips instead!
