Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely healthy and good for you. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are terrific at battling depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you want to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can really help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can really bring you down! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are aware that it can help improve your mood as well!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Test out these suggestions instead!
