Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. Several foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are wonderful at combating depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can truly make you feel awful! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
